“From the minute John McCain suspended his campaign and arrived in Washington to address this crisis, he was attacked by the Democratic leadership: Senators Obama and Reid, Speaker Pelosi and others. Their partisan attacks were an effort to gain political advantage during a national economic crisis. By doing so, they put at risk the homes, livelihoods and savings of millions of American families.
“Barack Obama failed to lead, phoned it in, attacked John McCain, and refused to even say if he supported the final bill.
“Just before the vote, when the outcome was still in doubt, Speaker Pelosi gave a strongly worded partisan speech and poisoned the outcome.
“This bill failed because Barack Obama and the Democrats put politics ahead of country.â€

We need a deal, now!
Congress must act, now!
Bailout Deal Fails.
94 Democrats oppose the bill
Congress responds to their failure, by taking two days off.
WTF!
If this crisis is so urgent, How can Congress take time off? Congress needs to stay in session and do their job.

Speaker Pelosi is unable to deliver the bailout bill, 94 Democrats oppose the Democrat Speaker of the House.
Republican Minority Leader Boehner, delivered 65 votes for this ghastly measure, going against Republicans principles.
Opponents said part of the reason for the opposition from Republicans was what they termed a partisan speech by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said one GOP source.
"Pelosi's partisan speech has caused our members to go berserk and may cost us any remaining chance to pass the bill," the source said.
Pelosi had said that Congress needed to pass the bill, even though it was an outgrowth of the "failed Bush economic policies" of the last eight years.
Supporters of the bailout bill had said they didn't like it but didn't want to play with history or risk an economic collapse.
"I'm not willing to put that bullet in the revolver and spin it. I will take the political risk," said Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Ala., the ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee.
They have stood up for their principles. They are refusing to risk taxpayers money to cover-up the criminal activities of the Democrats.
Democrats,
who refused to regulation Fannie/Freddie,
who demanded loans be given to uncreditworthy minorities,
who turned a blind eye to "enron accounting" at Fannie/Freddie,
Democrats who turn to former CEO's of Fannie/Freddie for economic advise,
Democrats who gleefully received $100's of thousands of dollars from Fannie/Freddie.
Now we see what was brought with that money.
By the way.
Senator John McCain is working on this situation,
Senator Obama is campaigning.

Gov. Blunt Statement on Obama Campaign’s Abusive Use of Missouri Law Enforcement
Gov. Blunt Statement on Obama Campaign’s Abusive Use of Missouri Law Enforcement
JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.
“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.
“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.
“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.
“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts - not a free society.â€
This is a shot across Obama's bow.
Gov. Blunt is a graduate of Canoe U. (aka US Naval Academy.)
Money quotes:
"Barack Obama needs to grow up."
“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights."

- Well, I think Senator McCain’s absolutely right that we need more responsibility …
- Well, Senator McCain is absolutely right that the earmarks process has been abused …
- And he’s also right that oftentimes lobbyists and special interests are the ones that are introducing these kinds of requests ….
- Now, John mentioned the fact that business taxes on paper are high in this country, and he’s absolutely right.
- But John is right we have to make cuts. [And then Obama refused to note even a single cut he'd be willing to make.]
- Senator McCain is absolutely right that the violence has been reduced as a consequence of the extraordinary sacrifice of our troops and our military families.
- And, John, I — you’re absolutely right that presidents have to be prudent in what they say.
- Now, Senator McCain is also right that it’s difficult.
- Senator McCain is absolutely right, we cannot tolerate a nuclear Iran.

One more reaction thread
Given the CNN and CBS polling, the public has overwhelmingly crowned Obama the winner of the debate. It seems that Republicans spent so much time trashing Obama's "lack of experience" and "lack of judgment" on national security, that expectations were ridiculously low, and as a result, people were pleasantly (and happily) surprised.
******
Gee, Kos seems so smug, "the public has overwhelmingly crowned Obama".
But, since Kos asked his readers to freep (stuff) the online polls, it should not be a surprise. All those basement dwelling teenagers, who aren't old enough to drive, let alone vote, going to the various online polls to promote Obama.
But you think I made this up.
look below the fold.
But consider the online poll at DrudgeReport.com:
{{{{DRUDGE POLL}}}} WHO WON THE FIRST PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE?...
MCCAIN
68% | 218,644 |
30% | 96,004 |
2% | 7,743 |
Total Votes: 322,391
Kos forgot the poll at the most popular online news site.

Second, it was the House Republicans who stayed in DC, to demand a vote on offshore drilling, which has resulted in the lifting of the Congressional ban on offshore drilling.
Now, it is the House Republicans who are standing up and saying that the $700,000,000,000 Wall Street Bailout is bad for America. They have proposed a less costly, and less risky plan to restore the credit markets.
The Democrats, led by Speaker Pelosi, do not need any Republicans votes in the House to pass bills. But the Democrats don't want to be blamed for this bailout, The Democrats created this mess by demanding banks loan (give) money to people who could not afford to pay it back - affordable housing for all (especially minorities, because it is wrong to consider the ability of the borrower to pay back the loan if they are part of minority group).
The Senate Democrats do need a few Republicans to allow a vote on this bill.
Republicans led by Senator McCain, are willing to risk the election, while trying to work with the Democrats to draft a bill which will actually help our economy.
Democrats led by __________, are not willing to risk the election, are not willing to take the blame if the bailout fails.

Failure to prevent the airing of “false and misleading advertising†may be “probative of an underlying abdication of licensee responsibility†Cosmopolitan Broad. Corp v. FCC, 581 F.2d 917, 927 (D.C. Cir. 197 .
So basically, stop running NRA’s ads, or your broadcast license could be in jeopardy. They detail the WaPo’s FactCheck.org repetition as proof. This is Chicago politics at its finest folks. If you can’t win fair, win dirty. This is not how a free society is supposed to function. This is not the kind of man I want leading my country.
Besides, every bit of what NRA claimed is true. It’s the Obama campaign and the news media that’s lying. The ads are based on a real, proven record.

Before I was elected to Congress we used to hear that when faced with a crisis, members of Congress would invariably soil themselves, throw money at the problem and hope that it went away.
Unfortunately, in these dysfunctional economic times, we find that this process has continued.
As Americans face a potential meltdown of the financial sector, we have seen what I believe to be an inappropriate response starting with this Administration.
From the time we were informed that a potential financial meltdown was going to occur, this separate equal branch of government which is the U.S. Congress was told that we had but one alternative and that if we did not pass it quickly — in the time specified *by* the executive branch — that our economy would be severely damaged.
It has been my opinion that we were elected, by the sovereign people of the United States, to make important decisions on their behalf, to do it with the due diligence and devotion that is due and to come up with a positive solution to their situation.
Last night, I was struck by the fact that again we were told [by the President] that again if we did not give unlimited amounts of money and unlimited powers to the Executive Branch that *we* were failing in our due diligence and responsibilities to the American people.
I heard the President of the United States say that we do not understand the need to act.
That statement is false. We understand the need to act.
We heard from the President of the United States that we did not care about American families.
That statement is false. We care very much about American families.
What we did not hear was a recognition that a three-page document that gives to the Treasury Secretary and the Chairman of the Federal Reserve powers — the likes of which Stalin and Mao killed people for — was not an acceptable response to give to this separate, equal branch of government.
Today, we are told that House Republicans are standing in the way of a $700 billion use of your tax dollars to bail out the very people who caused this problem!
Guilty as charged!
House Republicans believe there is an alternative.
The Administration tells us that their first, last, only resort is to go to the taxpayers and bail out Wall Street. We fundamentally disagree with this!
Wall Street should bail out Wall Street.
House Republicans believe that the toxic assets clogging up our economy should first attempt to be recapitalized by the very people sitting on the sidelines with their money waiting for you the taxpayer to be fleeced and put it in so they are “confident that the market will workâ€.
We can not re-inflate the bubble.
The people who on Main Street invested and saved and had good credit their entire lives should not be asked to go back in to help cowboy capitalists who shot themselves in the foot.
I have supported the President when he has been correct.
But he is in err now.
House Republicans stood and supported the Patreus surge.
Today House Republicans oppose the Paulson splurge so we can have prosperity in America in the long run.
We will not engage in a rush to judgment that destroys the possibility of the free market and prosperity for decades to come.
We will not walk out of this room after a forced vote waving a piece of paper in our hands claiming “fleeced in our time.â€
We *will* do the job we were entrusted with.

Media Campaigns Hard for Obama
By Tony BlankleyThe mainstream media have gone over the line and are now straight-out propagandists for the Obama campaign.
...
And as a result, we are less than seven weeks away from possibly electing a president who has not been thoroughly or even halfway honestly presented to the country by our watchdogs -- the press. The image of Obama that the press has presented to the public is not a fair approximation of the real man. They consciously have ignored whole years of his life and have shown a lack of curiosity about such gaps, which bespeaks a lack of journalistic instinct.
Thus, the public image of Obama is of a "man who never was."
...
The mainstream media ruthlessly and endlessly repeat any McCain gaffes while ignoring Obama gaffes. You have to go to weird little Web sites to see all the stammering and stuttering that Obama needs before getting out a sentence fragment or two. But all you see on the networks is an eventually clear sentence from Obama. You don't see Obama's ludicrous gaffe that Iran is a tiny country and no threat to us. Nor his 57 American states gaffe. Nor his forgetting, if he ever knew, that Russia has a veto in the U.N. Nor his whining and puerile "come on" when he is being challenged. This is the kind of editing one would expect from Goebbels' disciples, not Cronkite's.
...
But worse than all the unfair and distorted reporting and image projecting are the shocking gaps in Obama's life that are not reported at all. The major media simply have not reported on Obama's two years at New York's Columbia University, where, among other things, he lived a mere quarter-mile from former terrorist Bill Ayers. Later, they both ended up as neighbors and associates in Chicago. Obama denies more than a passing relationship with Ayers. Should the media be curious? In only two weeks, the media have focused on all the colleges Gov. Palin has attended, her husband's driving habits 20 years ago, and the close criticism of the political opponents Gov. Palin had when she was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska.
But in two years, they haven't bothered to see how close Obama was with the terrorist Ayers.
...
Perhaps that is why the National Journal's respected correspondent Stuart Taylor wrote, "The media can no longer be trusted to provide accurate and fair campaign reporting and analysis."

"There are two people -- you've heard me say it before -- two groups that stand between us and the barbarians at the gate," Biden said. "It's you and organized labor. That's it. That is it. So, mark my words, mark my words, if we lose this election, you are going to continue to see a continuation of the onslaught on everything we care about. For real. For real. So, I'm not only thanking you for your help. I would think you're all absolutely brain-dead if you didn't help. And I mean it."
So, let me summerize:Biden is for trial lawyers.
Biden is pro-union.
Biden will have his lawyers sue, if they lose.
Biden will have the unions riot, if they lose.
And tomorrow
Biden will say he was misquoted, because we, the people, are not smart enough to understand him.

If we lose, we sue.
They tried and failed at this twice - Florida in 2000, Ohio in 2004
Now, it is "If we lose, we will riot"
or "Elect us to ruin this country or else."
Liberals Warnings About Obama Loss May Prove Self-Fulfilling
by Dennis Prager
If Barack Obama loses the 2008 election, liberal hell will break loose.
Seven weeks before the 2008 presidential election, liberals are warning America that if Barack Obama loses, it is because Americans are racist. Of course, that this means that Democrats (and independents) are racist, since Republicans will vote Republican regardless of the race of the Democrat, is an irony apparently lost on the Democrats making these charges.
That an Obama loss will be due to racism is becoming as normative a liberal belief as “Bush Lied, People Died,†a belief has generated intense rage among many liberals. But “Obama lost because of white racism†will be even more enraging. Rage over the Iraq War has largely focused on President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. But if Obama loses, liberal rage will focus on millions of fellow Americans and on American society.
And it could become a rage the likes of which America has not seen in a long time, if ever. It will first and foremost come from within black America. The deep emotional connection that nearly every black American has to an Obama victory is difficult for even empathetic non-blacks to measure. A major evangelical pastor told me that even evangelical black pastors who share every conservative value with white evangelical pastors, including pro-life views on abortion, will vote for Obama. They feel their very dignity is on the line.
That is why the growing chorus -- already nearing unanimity -- of liberal commentators and politicians ascribing an Obama loss to American racism is so dangerous.
It will be the racism of the Democrats that will sink the Obama campaign.Affirmative Action is striking back at Obama,
Obama has become a US Senator due to Affirmative Action,
he got into Ivy league schools due to his race,
he graduated from those schools due to his race,
he got his jobs due to his race,
The 'machine' in Chicago saw him as good puppet,
so the 'machine' got him into the State Senate,
and told him to avoid votes - so he voted 'present' [130 times],
the 'machine' openned the sealed divorce records of Gov Ryan to clear him out of the way so Obama could enter the US Senate.
The 'machine' wants their puppet in the White House.
And the 'whites' who, like me, have been denied jobs and opportunities because the company has to promote less qualified people because of their skin color in order to meet their affirmative action quotas, are going to vote against Obama - because he is less qualified than McCain.
Voters do have to apply affirmative action when they vote.

Meanwhile, the Other No. 2 Keeps On Punching [Himself]
FLAT ROCK, Mich. — As the economy reels, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. — the Other Running Mate — has been absolutely butchering Senator John McCain across the Rust Belt this week. It is not clear who has noticed.[nobody noticed]
...
The older woman who introduced him at a rally here called Mr. Biden’s Republican counterpart, Gov. Sarah Palin
of Alaska, a “bucket of fluff,†and he rewarded the woman as he took
the microphone with an “I love you†and a gentle kiss on the head.
[What a sexist pig.]
...
The Obama campaign was hoping to reintroduce Mr. Biden this week as
running mate attack dog. But his penchant for verbal rambling ensured
that much of the attention he drew was unwanted: he said wealthy
Americans had a “patriotic†duty to pay more taxes, a remark the McCain
campaign mocked relentlessly.
[Joe, go remind your fellow Democrat, Mr Rangel, to do his patriotic duty, on time, not just when caught red-handed.]
“People got to wake up, because these guys in Washington are raping this country,†said Dave McLimans, a steelworker from Coatesville, Pa., who attended the rally in Media. “Joe Biden talks in a way that can wake people up.â€
[wake up Mr McLimans, Joe Biden has been in the US Senate for the last 35 years - he is one of 'these guys in Washington'.
Bob Hope was correct, Democrats are vombies.]
...
He barely mentions the Alaska governor in speeches; in the interview, he described her as “a very attractive political personality†who can “really deliver a political message.â€
[A damn good political message. ]
...
Mr. Biden retains his regal senatorial bearing even in gritty
settings of the campaign trail. On Wednesday, he wore a pressed blue
blazer with a hanky folded smartly into the breast pocket. His skin is
perma-tanned, and his smile is shiny white. He has his own big
entourage now — own bus, own plane. He conveys the giddy sense of a man
who has won a political lottery, or been plucked from an elite
purgatory.
[Joe Biden, an elistist snob, part of the Washington incrowd. A big part of the problem in DC.]
“Remember, no one decides who they’re going to vote for based on the vice president,†he said. “I mean that literally.â€
[Well Joe,
Barack Obama's wimpy choice of you, shows his arrogant stupidity, and makes it easier to vote against your ticket.
John McCain's brillant choice of Governor Sarah Palin, really makes it easier for me to vote for McCain/Palin.
So, the Vice-Presidential choice does matter, literally.]

From the New York Times:
Representative Charles B. Rangel has delivered six checks, totaling $10,800, to New York State and to the I.R.S. to pay the back taxes he owes from rental income on his Dominican villa, his legal team announced on FridayMr. Rangel,
Mr. Rangel acknowledged this month that he had failed to declare $75,000 in rental income from his beachfront villa on both his tax returns and financial disclosure forms. Mr. Rangel’s lawyers said he owed back taxes for at least three years and had hired a forensic accounting firm to review his records dating back 20 years to search for additional omissions.
...Mr. Rangel, a Harlem Democrat, has come under fire in recent months for his fund-raising and personal finances, and is also the subject of two other ethics investigations: one into his use of his Congressional stationery to raise money for a City University of New York center that will bear his name, the other involving the four rent-stabilized apartments that a landlord allowed him to lease at prices far below the market rate.
...Because Mr. Rangel is the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, which writes the nation’s tax code, his failure to pay taxes has proved an embarrassment. Republicans, and several newspaper editorial boards, have called for him to give up the chairmanship. But after Mr. Rangel met with the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, this week, he announced that he would remain as chairman. A resolution to remove him as Ways and Means chairman was defeated on Friday, largely along party lines.
Mr. Rangel and his staff did not return repeated calls requesting comment on Friday. But in an open letter to New York residents, the congressman said he was the target of a “guerrilla war†being carried out by Republicans. “The campaign season has begun, and to no great surprise, I’m now a Republican talking point,†he wrote. “But I assure you, I’ve brought no dishonor to my family, the Congress, my constituents, or my country.â€
It is your fault.
You claim ignorance of the laws you wrote.
It is your fault that you are ignorant of the law.
You should know the tax law or you should hire folks who do know the tax laws to do your taxes.
It is your fault.
It is your fault.
That you disobeyed the laws of the City of New York, owning 4 different rent-controlled apartments.
You are the one denying other folks a place to live.
It is your fault.
Mr Rangel, other people would be jailed for these crimes.
but you are a Congress Critter who thinks himself above the law.
Mr Rangel, you are a leader of the most dishonest Congress ever.
and
It Is Your Own Fault.

The House [Democrats] introduced new energy legislation late last night. Finally…right? The House also wants to bring the 290-page bill, which can be found here, to the floor today. You think the 435 Members in the House of Representatives are going to meticulously read all 290 pages? A bill that makes fundamental changes to thousands of pages of earlier energy bills as well as the tax code. Please
[no modifications are allowed to this bill, which was introduced last night, this bill is a pile of dung that DEMOCRATS think they can slip by us, while claiming to ACT on the energy crisis, the reality is otherwise]
...
We can’t be that hasty. Just because the bill mentions drilling doesn’t mean it’s a good bill. The “compromise†bill would set a permanent ban on drilling within 50 miles of the coast while allowing states to decide whether they want to drill or not between 50 and 100 miles. But thanks to the Institute for Energy Research, let’s check out where the oil actually is. The bill would:
• Permanently ban access to 97% of the 10.5 billion barrels off the California coast. Then, California gets to decide whether to produce just 3% of its resources.
• Continue the ban on the Eastern Gulf of Mexico, an area with an estimated 3.65 barrels of oil and 22 trillion cubic feet of natural gas
• Institute a first-ever 50 mile ban off the coast of Alaska.

The reason he [McCain] doesn't send email is that he can't use a keyboard because of the relentless beatings he received from the Viet Cong in service to our country. From the Boston Globe (March 4, 2000):McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain's encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He's an avid fan - Ted Williams is his hero - but he can't raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.
And the Obama Campaign wants to use McCain's injuries from his captivity in Communist North Vietnam against him.
McCain received those injuries while serving the United States of America, those injuries came while McCain was defending the free people of South Vietnam.
Obama supports oppression.
McCain and Palin support freedom.
McCain and Palin understand the price of freedom. (Sending your own children to a war zone.)
