Overprotective Parent

While waiting to order my meal at my local Boston Market, the young mom with her little daughter in front of me, dropped a nickel. The mom bent down and put her daughter down, then she stopped her daughter from picking up the 'nickel from the dirty floor' .

That is crazy.

The child wants to be helpful. The child should be rewarded for picking up the nickel.

Why does the young mom want to make her child afraid of the 'dirty floor'?

A case of insane over-protection.

Let the child pick-up the dropped nickel, and praise the child for being helpful. In the long run, it will benefit the child more.
